Cross country at Kings Park!!

muddy-running-shoes

On Thursday the 16th of January 2014 we had a cross country race. Unfortunately we didn’t win but we all tried are hardest. It was fun but very hard work as it was a year 6 and 7 race. It was so boggy and muddy that it was like running through a swamp. For the boys it was 2.8 kilometres but for the girls it was 2.5 kilometres! We all got very muddy and we all enjoyed it. Fortunately I didn’t fall over but lots of people did. Somehow Oliver M came 51st leaving the rest of us behind. I loved it and can’t wait for the next one.

Cross country at kings park!

On Thursday the 16th of January 2014 the St Mary cross country team went to Kings Parks. We did the muddiest the hardest cross country race in the world! The race we did was combined in year 7 & 6. The race was 2.8km for the boys and the girls did 2.5km! at the start of the race everyone was pushing to the front we all wanted to win! The race started and Oliver Martin zoomed off leaving Oliver C, Sean, Karl and Tommy trailing at the end of the mob! Unfortunately about 5 minutes into the race Karl fell into a big pile of mud. Seconds later he was back up and ready to win at the end of the race Oliver M came 51st!

My Taylor Swift concert at the 02 arena!

On Saturday 2nd of February 2014 I went to a Taylor swift concert at the 02 arena in London. I had a great time. I waited 1 hour to see the vamps, the act that came on before Taylor swift.  They came on and they were awesome. They played 4 songs.

After the vamps the lights turned off and suddenly I saw a shadow of Taylor swift. Then she started singing some of her amazing songs. Such as: 22, never getting back together, love story, stay stay stay and many more. Altogether I was there for 3 hours. At one point I was 3 m away from Taylor Swift. She has done 79 tours all together. As a guest she invited Ed Sheeran to sing one of his songs I loved it. It was 10.30 by the time it finished.

St. Edward’s Sports Day

Yesterday (30/01/2014) me, Molly and others went to St. Edward’s for a sports day. The travel was tiring but it was worth the walk. The kids from St. Edward’s were friendly and jokey and all the games they came up with were really fun. We played games such as Javelin Throw and Cops ‘n’ Robbers for 2 minutes. Finally, after all the fun and games, we thanked the St. Edward’s students for the day and went back to school… for a lovely lunch.

Today on the 30th January 2014 me and Lizzy and a few other people went to St Edwards for a sports day. We played lots of games like cops and robbers that is where you have a ball and you bounce it and the the cops try and get it. We also did lots more around the hall like skipping for 1 to 2 minutes and also backwards that was harder than skipping forward.

Anaerobic Digestion

On the 24th of January ’14 the schoolchildren of St Mary’s RC CA Primary School got invited to visit an anaerobic digester (A food disposal company) to learn about micro-organisms. As we got to this place, everyone’s nose was being tightened by their hands because of the stench.

CIMG8436

We met two people named Philip, who was Portuguese, and Antonio, who was Brazilian. Luckily enough, they could both speak good English. This industrial estate is a highly top secret disposal waste company located in Piddlehinton, Dorchester.

We explored the facility and learned about how it all works, what happens if something went wrong and other interesting facts.  Everyone covered up their noses, but luckily   we could still hear all the great facts.

Apart from the horribly smelly stench, we had a FANTASTIC day at the anaerobic digester. Unfortunately, everybody smelled in the minibus so on the way back it ABSOLUTELY STANK!!!

CIMG8443

Also this week, the first ever sports blog from our Y6 Cross Country girls…thanks to Mr. MacCallister for organising all this…

CROSS COUNTRY

Freezing cold, ready to go! our race came round quick. Are nerves took over our body; soon we were at the race line waiting for the whistle to blow. BEEP! The whistle had been blown, my tummy had turned like a rolly polly.I was off!!!Trapcing through loads of muddy puddles, I started to loose my breath. After a while I got back on track wanting to win. At last I could see the finish line it became closer and closer as I sprinted as fast as I could.

A sigh of relief came over me,

IHAD FINISHED MY RACE!!!!!

Yesterday a visitor came from monkey world and that visitors name was Rebeca she taught us about the monkeys and there habit and where they came from. Their   habit is the rainforest and they need to be saved that is why they have monkey world to save them and   there   home. I can tell you why they need to be rescued it is because a lot of people are chopping down trees and they live in those trees the people that are chopping down trees are digging in the grounds looking for diamonds, gems, gold ,silver, tin and copper which are really rear.

Thank you for listening to this.

We had an amazing time listening to the person from Monkey world. She said that it first started up by a man called Jim. The first monkey they found was called Amy she was a Chimpanzee. She is still at the park she is 30. She came in at the age of 3. Now they have about 250 monkeys and around 18 different types. They have made climbing frames like tree made of old telephone poles. Because they make nests in trees when there in the wild they made baskets made of old fireman hoses. Monkeys normally live on the equator they do not like the cold.

Historical visit Simon Stone:

IMG_5211

Firstly we saw some interesting maps and pictures of ancient Greece then we learned the story of the monster minator. Once we had done that we got into groups and did a seen on the giant monster that killed the king’s sun. Later six people dressed up like solders to guard the gates of the king. Every one dressed up as the people from ancient Greece to fill the seen. It was so exciting !

By Jo.

Tuesday the 26th November 2013

Today Simon Stone came in to talk about ancient Greece.

IMG_5236

We had to dress up and do freeze frames, me and Lizzy did extremely good poses while Simon Stone was telling us what to do next and how to do it.

 IMG_5268

As the Athens had killed the terrible minator, the Spartan king was infuriated so he decided to declare war…

The people of Athens had luckily saved the lives of the messengers because they had sent them a golden box full of pearls and jewellery.

Cronus was a very powerful king of Troy. However, he ate all of his sons when they were being born.

IMG_5262

We also found out about when Zeus was trying to name a small town but his problem was that Athena and Poseidon both wanted to name the town after them but it was so hard for Zeus to choice because if he gave it to Poseidon Athena the goddess of war and wisdom would do whatever she could think of

 IMG_5273

And if he gave it to Athena then Poseidon would be upset what could  he do then he had an idea what if they both had to give the city something and the winner got to name the city after themselves. Poseidon gave the town salt which they could use for cooking and preserve stuff. Athena gave the town olives which they use for olive oil, tooth paste and lots more Zeus had another problem they are both useful   in the end he chose Athena to name the city after herself and that is how Athens got its name.

KS2 Blog#9

Hello and welcome to the ninth KS2 blog.

Hot off the press-all work done by volunteers in 10 minutes flat-no helping, editing or amending.  Over to the girls for Science Exhibition Day.

A massive well done to Mrs. Mills for organising this at such a busy time of year:

(Click on a photo to enlarge it).

CIMG8072

Wow, today has been so hectic. Today year 6 put on a science exhibition and we had so many people come in. Our topic this term in science was the human body and we put on an exhibition for the parents and children of year 3 to see our home-learning projects and work we did in a team at school.

I was in a group with Nichelle and Poppy and we took people’s pulse rate after running and doing a warm-up. We had lots of people come in and after they did there exercise we awarded them with a glass of water and a biscuit, also whoever was the fittest got a certificate. When we were about half way through the exhibition we got a surprise visit from the year 3 pupils who thought they would come and have a look. We started to take out six people at a time but then more and more people wanted to come and we ended up with 15 at a time! After that, we ran out of biscuits (we had two packs) but luckily I had some stickers to give out.

CIMG8084

Overall I had an amazing afternoon with the exhibition and I hope we can do it again. I really enjoyed showing my work off to the parents and year 3’s. I think it is a very good idea and more year groups should do it.

By Kitty CC (Year 6)

Fantastic! That’s what it was the Year6 team put on an exhibition to show how well they can work together and shows of our science skills! the whole year got into groups and organise loads of different games and experiments.

Parents and year three’s said ‘’I enjoyed the different types of activities it was all very lively and entertaining-Such Fun. Year three pupils said ‘’it was really fun all the activities were great.

CIMG8099

’The year 6 team said that they really enjoyed having a free reign a really want to do it again. Who wouldn’t?

A fun experience I should say and year 6 would say that too. The Games were amazing there were Feely boxes, Pulse experiments, pin the bone on the Skeleton and Quizzes’ think it’s fair to say it was great fun from the whole of year 6.

CIMG8051

Wow   today has been so amazing at our year 6 science exabishion

There were so many activity’s like a feely box, pulse rate , build the body and so much more  also we had year 3 and so many parents visit to day . Me , Anne- Marie, Kiara and Georgia ran a stall with a feely box and we had allot of  visitors . The children and adults’ all did well touching the things in the mystery box but I think that the children were much better. We left a comment paper and we had so many uplifting comments.

I have to say that today was extremely good and brilliant for all of us and the year 6 staff have been so supportive with our exabishion  and we are all so grateful.

We all hope that we can show our projects again as an exabishion because we all enjoyed today and we would love to do it again!
